Travel Tips: Getting Around

Visitors without a car often rely on shuttle services to get into and around the Valley. Groome Transportation operates scheduled service between Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport and key Verde Valley locations, including Sedona/Cottonwood and Camp Verde. Once here, many visitors combine shuttles with walking, guided tours, and ride-share services.

Guided tours are a popular way to explore without worrying about traffic or parking. Sedona’s trolley tours, Jeep tours, and small-group sightseeing excursions provide access to scenic viewpoints and local history, while Jerome’s guided walking tours help visitors navigate steep streets and learn about the town’s mining past.

If your visit includes multiple communities—Sedona, Cottonwood, Jerome, Camp Verde, or Cornville—a rental car offers the most flexibility. Visitors staying mainly in Sedona or Old Town Cottonwood may be able to rely on shuttles, tours, ride-share services, and walking.

Uber and Lyft operate throughout much of the Verde Valley, with the strongest availability in Sedona, Cottonwood, and Camp Verde. These services are useful for dining out and short trips, though wait times can vary, especially in the evenings.

Sedona experiences heavy traffic during peak seasons. The free Sedona Shuttle park-and-ride system serves popular trailheads and visitor areas, helping reduce congestion and parking stress. Jerome’s historic layout limits parking; visitors are encouraged to park once in public lots and explore on foot.

  • Don’t assume Sedona trailheads have parking —many require shuttle access.
  • Don’t ignore parking signs in Sedona or Jerome —enforcement is strict.
  • Don’t expect instant ride-share service outside core areas.
  • Don’t drive into Jerome expecting easy street parking —use public lots.
  • Don’t rely on cell service for parking apps—download ahead.
  • Don’t drink and drive between towns or wineries —use ride-share or tours.
